Both granite and quartz are extremely hard, durable, and beautiful, so the choice entirely depends on your taste, personal requirements, and budget.

Granite is a porous material and to make it resistant to dirt, it has to be sealed. The sealant has to be applied once a year at least as it will eventually wear off from frequent use.

The main things you should take into consideration are your budget and lifestyle. Just remember that there is no such thing as the perfect kitchen countertop.

Sealing simply means protecting the surface of the kitchen countertop with a sealant. When granite and quartz countertops are properly sealed, they are easier to clean. Sealing it also reduces risks of staining. Quartz countertops generally don’t require periodic sealing, but granite ones do.

If you are unsatisfied with your work surface, it would be better to install a new countertop made from another material like engineered quartz.

Also, if you are dealing with a quartz countertop, be tremendously careful as sudden extreme temperature changes can result in thermal expansion which can damage the stone.
